Story for the Day: Fashionable Sense

Image
Fashionable Sense A WIP of Alasdair. Look at that hair.                 The commander and Alasdair waited in their joint quarters for Prince Aldan Buthaena of Livanon to appear on the veranda of the palace. They looked below at the amassing nobility and watched them mill together while speaking in a polite hum and enjoying their spiced wines: glasses were clinked together, the smiles of civility and royal coldness were exchanged, and everyone seemed pleased to enjoy the quiet festivities without the attendance of his highness.                 In a few moments, however, the crowed was silenced by the royal herald announcing that Prince Aldan was come. The trumpets sounded and captain Sarasa appeared first to place the curtain aside for his elder brother. Aldan soon appeared in the archway and everyone bowed with due esteemed as Aldan walked to the edge of the veranda. He said his short welcomes, waved his little hand, and stood on the balcony to bask in the delicate applause of his s

Story for the Day: Tarts

Image
A moment from book 1. Tarts                 Once the small tour of the apses, the battlements, and the inner gardens of the Haven had done, the party was conveyed to the boarding quarter just as evening was settling in. Ghelbhi was given a comfortable room directly opposing Rithea’s, and the commander and Den Asaan were given charge of adjoining guest chambers along the outer wall of the fortress. They were promised a meal together during which Rithea hoped to know Ghelbhi more, but as dinner was little more than warmed oat porridge, Rautu was determined to eat the remainder of the cured pork from their provisions and eat in the quiet of his room                 He was now alone, caught in a blend of euphoric bliss for his meal and of agony for the question he was so desirous of posing. He knew that she must be aware of his intention due to the mistake he had made along the road and expected her to take every advantage she could to taunt him on the subject. Her powers at goading him w

Story for the Day: A Wealthy Engagement

Having immense difficulty concentrating today, probably due to all the rewrites. Doing my utmost to finish 200 pages of rewrites in the next few days. In the meantime: A Wealthy Engagement                 The party was conveyed to their fashionable rooms for the evening and when they had just settled, the royal herald of Livanon brought a message to King Alasdair. It was an invitation to a private dinner that was to be beheld in the lesser ballroom just after sunset. The attendants were to be everyone in possession of royal blood who came to the palace with the object of seeing King Aldan and Her Lady of Sesterna marry and those without noble situation were asked not to attend. The event was to be a presenting of the king’s intended queen, and though this was a mere appearance for the lady to be admired and lauded with all due propriety for the occasion, only the select few of high rank were allowed to attend.                   Alasdair was forced to accept the summons but refused

Story for the Day: Portrait of a High Lord

Image
I'm still in the middle of rewrites. I had to write this or I couldn't continue. Portrait of a High Lord Kai Linaa's portrait of Alasdair.                  Kai Linaa had finished the portrait of King Alasdair by the early afternoon, and once she had done, the parchment was carefully taken to Tomas and Shayne where the two labourers would create a backing and suitable frame for the drawing. It was to be hung in the gallery amidst all the other likenesses of Frewyn’s past kings and queens, and though Kai Linaa protested, claiming her attempts to capture Alasdair’s agreeable person and handsome features were meager at best, Tomas and Shayne negated any refutation that Kai Linaa might conjure. They gloried in creating a setting for the piece and would not allow so noble a task to be taken from them by Kai Linaa’s thoughts of insufficiency.                 She had thought to practice drawing Carrigh when she observed High Lord Dobhin walking from the barracks to the sol

Barellynn and Metula's Haven

Doing rewrites for Book 1. Here is a little about the Frewyn village of Barellynn. Ghelbhi and the duckling The village of Barellynn was a quaint and modest community, suffering from moderation but not lacking in spirits and cheerfulness. The mid-afternoon of the small village was filled with lively music from the inn, scents of baked bread from the homes, and the tinkling ripples from the birth of its afamed and tranquil lake. Barellynn Mere stood as the center of the parish, surrounded by flowerbeds and charming benches inviting the village’s occupants to sit and admire the construction in the lake’s heart.                   Metula’s Haven stood as a testament to Frewyn’s tolerance for magic. The fort and refuge accepted all of the kingdom’s benevolent practitioners and house even those more inclined to practice the less wholesome of magicks for a short time. The fort itself was but a pale imitation of its former glory but was still large enough to accommodate numerous mages a
