Socks: A Haanta bemusement
|Socks: something Rautu will never come to understand.|
Haanta Amghari practice what they call Fire-Walking, or Khi-Dhanlaas. When they are instated, one of the first orders of business is to harden and deaden the soles of their feet. This is done to facilitate certain practices and ease their travel across difficult terrain. They are made to walk over beds of scalding rocks and a repeated application causes the bottoms of their feet to toughen. This burning of the soles makes wearing anything on their feet uncomfortable and while Sindhaara, or flat sandals are worn when away from their homeland, the warriors of the islands prefer to be barefoot everywhere they go.
Boots were difficult enough for Rautu to understand but socks, especially knee-highs, are a profound misconstruction. Why they require prints of edible items on them is another oddity. He could have borne the appearance of cupcakes had there not been cherries on them or abominable vanilla frosting, but the presence of the vanilla cake and hearts have ruined the socks entirely.
