Story for the Day: A First Friend

Image
While I was doing edits, Alasdair demanded a story about him. Now we know why he is so fussy about his hair.  A First Friend                 King Dorrin was now undecided as to what was to be done with the chestnut filly that had throw his injured grandson. He could not deny that the incident had been warranted after how ill Allande had conducted himself with regard to his gift, but it pained him to see any of his family in anguish whether the sufferance had been deserved or not. There was a general outcry to have the beast removed from the castle stables lest it rile the other horses or try to attack those belonging to the nobles, but this Dorrin could not and would not do: Allande had been the instigator of the filly’s anger and he would not punish her for something Allande should have been and was punished for himself. There was even a suggestion to have the horse taken to Farriage where it might be traded for another, or perhaps even to Tyferrim where if it could not be bridled

Story for the Day: Signs of Growth

Image
Signs of Growth                 After a day of trials, the evening had at last reached its summit of tranquility: Jaicobh and Calleen had gone for a together walk along the castle battlements, Rautu and Hathanta went to the training yard to begin their match at Hophsaas, and Sheamas was disposed to dozing in his comfortable chair while the commander superintended the two children at the kitchen table.                 Their activities soon moved to the floor where Soledhan and Jaicobh joined the former’s large white cat lounging at Sheamas’ feet. As the two children seemed to be determined to continue their games and lively conversation while on the ground, the commander procured warmed drinking chocolate and drawing paper for them, furnishing them with coloured chalks and crayons as she sat beside them with some warmed almond milk in her hand. Although Little Jaicobh and Soledhan were having their own blithesome merriment between themselves, all the commander’s gaiety was in watchin

Story for the Day: Addiction

I have a great love of video games. It would seem that Kai Linaa does too.  Addiction                 A package came to the cottage in Sethshire just as Kai Linaa and Unghaahi were settling in the upstairs rooms. It was conveyed to the common room table by the commander, who was asked to join their small excursion south with her mate. Although the plan to vacation together had been agreed to with the provision that there should be no disturbances, the advent of this particular parcel could be excused as a welcome interruption. The package was addressed to Kai Linaa, and once she and Unghaahi had claimed it, they noted that the direction was from Lucentia.                 Kai Linaa unfastened the parcel’s strings and tore open the gilded paper with great delight. She was buzzing with wonder to envision what was within but a small note obstructed her view of the item. She plucked the message from the box and read, imagining the sender’s voice:                                 Little sis

Story for the Day: The Leader of Lucentia

In honour of the new art Twisk is finishing for book 8, here is a small piece from the book and the portrait of Prince Lamir she just finished. Enjoy. He stood out from the basin and dried himself by baking in the rays of the morning sun. He was given a dry cloth in which he might continue his ceremonious desiccation but there was no need. He only wished to be dressed and be gone from his chambers as soon as was possible. He ordered his attendant to bring him the clothes on his stand beside the bed, and as he placed his numerous, thick-banned rings on his fingers, she assisted him in donning the remainder of his garments. His waist sash was tied, his surcoat adjusted, and he turned to regard her work in the mirror opposing the bed as she stood to the side aspiring to have done everything with the correctness he should have liked.                 While Lamir was assessing himself, the attendant gathered the previous evening’s clothing from the edge of the bed to place them aside for
