Story for the Day: Flatbreads

Flatbreads                  When the party had returned to the keep from their exploits in the Galleisian annex, they congregated in the castle kitchen to enjoy a traditional Frewyn meal: salted potatoes brushed with rosemary and garlic oil, roasted pheasants stuffed with hardened maple bread, and dark chocolate infused almond biscuits for dessert. Martje had outdone herself but as they had been in Gallei, she knew the culinary horrors that had awaited them in such a place. She had prepared in advance for their return home and she was certain that after experiencing such a dearth of flavour over the mountains even the Den Asaan would favour her cooking. She was correct in assuming his usual aspersions toward her abilities would be quieted.                  Rautu ate in silence and ignored Martje’s pert smile. He made fleeting gl...

Story for the day: Frewyn Infiltration

Image
Here is a tiny section from book 10. Rautu will not share his mate. Do not ask. Frewyn Infiltration                 The Galleisian music was about to recommence but the two Frewyn farmers wished to make certain that theirs would be the tunes regaling the audience, and Galleisian propriety being what it was the musicians were forced to relinquish their right to play when the twins made such an ardent demand to display the dulcet melodies of Eirannean’s new governing nation. The two farmers were careful not who say whose music was more palatable or whose dancing appeared to be more entertaining but their proclaiming of how excellent Frewyn custom was and their wishes to confirm it made all the assertion that was necessary to the cause.                 Seats were placed for them, drinks were finished, and every Frewyn face surrounding...

Story for the day: Carrot Cake

Image
This is a small piece from book 11. Enjoy.   Rautu will never like your carrot cake Carrot Cake                 To celebrate the hospitality of their family and friends in Frewyn they would be leaving behind on their departure, Kai Linaa resolved to make a cake in their honour but to ensure the safety of this cake, and to be convinced of its lasting more than five seconds out of the oven with the Den Asaan around, she contrived to make something she had not made in some time. Carrot cake, a delicacy in Lucentia, would supply delight for the entirety of the keep and Kai Linaa made it her object to bake enough for everyone to enjoy. She requested the use of the kitchen and it was granted. Martje would remain with Shayne and allow Kai Linaa the run of her domain while she spent some much needed time with her husband in their quarters. The profession made Kai Linaa giggle and smile and she thanked Martje...

Story for the day: Lord and Commander, Dobhin Reghan

This is a small piece from one of the books about Commander Dobhin. He, Alasdair and Boudicca have quite a history with one another. Here is his second appearance.                 Commander Dobhin was standing at the far end of one of the tables attempted with civility not to be noticed. He wished to be greeted by none of the nobility and as he had expected no one he admired to be at the celebration, he hid in a corner prepared to spend the evening looking into the bottom of his wine glass staring at everything with loathing when he saw the commander in the opposing corner beside the small elven woman. He sighed in relief and thanked the gods for the commander’s appearance and though he did not know Kai Linaa, if she stood with Boudicca MacDaede she could only be someone far more agreeable than the Frewyn nobility. He hastened toward her with commanding strides, hiding his face from any hellos that might as...
