Haanta Birthday Cake - now with 100% more Rautu

Image
What is better than having a birthday? Having a birthday cake with Rautu in the center and those who share the Haanta world around him. Thank you to Twisk for making this incredible drawing. Not only did she make Rautu with his signature super scowl but she also made everyone with party hats. There can be no birthday without party hats. Characters: Left top down: Good King Alasdair, Khantara and the wren (complete with uber tiny hat), Mhardhosa, Bhaaldhena and Jhiaanta with Tomas Cuineill at the bottom sporting his combination bandana and hat. Right top down: Unghaahi and Kai Linaa (with a hat on each ear), Otenohi wearing his hat in a precarious place, Obhantaa Leraa and Khaasta the cat with Mrs. Cuineill at the bottom. On the cake: Den Asaan Rautu in his work-safe mode and Mr. Craw the Gull  (with his adorable little hat).

Story for the day: The Commander's Birthday

Image
The Commander's Birthday The following morning, the commander was roused from her bed by a brash knock at the door. She quickly dressed and went to receive her visitor, hoping it had something to do with the package she was forbidden from seeing the evening previous, and was gratified in seeing the herald at her door. She greeted him with genial smiles and fluttering eyes, waiting for the information she longed to hear, but she receive none of what she was desirous of attaining. There were no words of illumination given nor was there talk of the parcel he had delivered to her mate. There was only an invitation to commune in the great hall when evening came. There were no other stipulations or terms of entreaty given and when she asked the meaning of this gathering, the herald gave her a look of circumspection as if she should have known why such a meeting was to be held.                 The herald left, the comm...

Haanta Lesson: What are Anonnaa?

Image
What are Anonnaa ? According to the Haanta, Anonnaa, or honoured ones, are more than friends. They are people with whom one shares an unexplainable and affectionate bond. When in the presence of Anonnaa, the Haanta receive what they call Dhraaha, relief from their inbred rages. When Anonnaa are parted, they do their best to correspond with their loved ones every day and are reminded of their attatchement when they see rainbows, or Vhisthoha in the sky. Anonnaa can be anyone and anywhere. There is no limit to their bond. They are friends, mates, brothers, companions, and even animals like Mr. Craw the gull and Khaasta the cat.     The Haanta do not celebrate birthdays but when they do feel the need to honour and celebrate their Anonnaa's achievements, there is no end to their munificence. Such is the bond I share with my Anonnaa and I hope everyone has the opportunity to find those who they could call the same. I have received more gifts and wishes for this birthday than I ...

The Birthday Parade

A special extra story to commemorate Twisk's birthday: The Birthday Parade            After the pleasantries of Kai Linaa's birthday cake were cleared away from the kitchen table, there was much discussion as to what was to be done in honour of her birthday. The four Haanta made numerous petitions to teach her the forbidden practices of the Amghari she so desired to learn to commemorate such a day but Alasdair sensibilities overruled their suggestions, fearing that the small woman would not be able to withstand the strain on her body. Quiet Frewyn activities were set in place of arrow-catching and strength training at the commander's proposal for she believed the birthday practices of the nobility were in order. Culinary decadence, the parading of oneself about while making proclamations of the special day, the purchasing of excessive clothing, the demanding of certain rights had all done for the royals of the keep and the...

A very special birthday wish to a very special Anonnaa

Image
The Haanta don't believe in the concept of birthdays but those in Frewyn do. Twisk, the artist for the Haanta series, is one of my Anonnaa and today happens to be her birthday. As such, I have goaded Rautu into wishing her many returns of the day. It took much birthday cake to convince him but his wish is sincere. The happiest of birthdays to Twisk. May there be a cottage, much Khopra and many sweets in your future. Ghesturaas dan Anaalon: you Haanta family
